Each year around this time, as the World Series Of Poker opens its doors, it is time for Phil Hellmuth to pull up his show and once again proclaim boldly that he is the King of Poker. What his Poker Majesty has needed so far, was another WSOP Bracelet to back these claims.
He indeed has pretty impressive stats to boast with - he is the player with most bracelet wins, until this year he had 11 bracelets and over 80 WSOP cashes, however most of these wins are from the times before internet poker and poker boom altogether. Back then the poker circus was much smaller and in the past years it seemed like Phil was loosing ground to younger players. It was anticipated that Phil Ivey or Erik Seidel (8 bracelets each) might catch his record.
But yesterday Phil did it - he won his 12th WSOP Bracelet! Noteworthy is the fact that he has won it in a Non-Holdem game of Razz (Event #18 $2,500). Holdem Texas Poker is his specialty as all his previous bracelet wins come from Hodem. Other poker variants (beside chinese poker) usually are not his weapons of choice. This makes his achievement even greater! Hail to the King!
Beside collecting another bracelet, Phil also banked a nice lump of money: $182,793 adding to a total of $13,339,913 in his career tournament earnings. The follow ups in the list of bracelet wins are Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan, each holding 10 bracelets.
