Phil Hellmuth – game over with UB.com!

Phil Hellmuth

The poker community has been rumoring about it for some time, but now it is official: Phil Hellmuth left UB.com – by mutual consent with the online Poker site, so it was said. Since 2001 Phil was with UB.com who he won a wide range of tournaments with. What is he up to now? Where is he heading to next?

He might join Poker Stars or Full Tilt? However, Howard Lederer, co-owner of Full Tilt, declared in an interview, that he would like to attract the two players Daniel Negreanu and Doyle Brunson for Full Tilt Poker, and didn´t mention Phil at all. Lederer´s sister, Annie Duke, left UB.com at the same time as Phil. She allegedly withdrew from Poker completely and intends to focus more on her private business.

We all recall from the past Phil´s legendary performances. First time we registered the then rising star on the Poker horizon in 1989, when he won fame at the age of 24 as the youngest winner of WSOP “The main event”, by defeating Johnny Chan. He held this record for the next 20 years as well as the one for the number of WSOP bracelets won and WSOP cashes.

Phil is also known for his rough personality, gaining the reputation of a “poker brat” by addressing disparaging remarks to his opponents during a tournament. In 2007 he was accepted to the Poker Hall of Fame and in 2009 he published his book “Deal me in” where he tells the story of 20 famous poker players and their poker career and reveals a range of cunning tricks and tips from the poker world. Up to now no further information on Phil´s future plans was published.

In order to complete the list of recent „departures“ we´d like to mention that last week Lee Jones announced his demission from Cake Poker where he was active as a card room manager. He could not get along with some of the recent strategic decisions of the management.
